Pecan Pie
Hummingbird Cake
Peach Cobbler
Banana Pudding
If you need something to serve after
dinner or with coffee, Freeman’s
Bakery in Florence makes a pecan pie
that can compete with any sweet in the
South. This holiday favorite is made to
order with crunchy pecans, plenty of
butter and sugar, in a flaky crust. Your
guests will thank you.
With pineapple, banana, pecans, cinnamon
and cream cheese icing, Hummingbird
Cake is the kind of recipe Southern ladies
pass along to friends and neighbors. That
was how the baker at Manuel’s Bread Café
in North Augusta, Teresa Reynolds, found
and fell in love with the recipe. It’s simple
and not too rich.
Southern food traditions abound at
Jestine’s Sweet Shop in Charleston,
and with their menu it can be hard to
save room. But the peach and blueberry
cobbler is like summertime in a bowl,
made with fresh South Carolina fruit
and served warm with a scoop of
homemade ice cream.
Reminiscent of Grandma’s kitchen,
banana pudding is a chilled, light and
fluffy classic. Along with the vanilla
pudding, bananas and whipped cream,
the portable single servings at the
Chocolate Moose in Greenville
are modernized with a salted
caramel sauce.
