A TURKEY FEAST
FOR THE EYES
In addition to its many historic sites and famed
artisans, Edgefield is renowned for its dedication
to the conservation of the wild turkey. In 2010,
the National Wild Turkey Federation, headquartered in town, gave eight fiberglass gobblers to
local artists to decorate, and the feathered friends
have been happily roosting downtown ever since.
Just one example of art and history coming together in the majestic form of this beloved fowl
is the “Ten Governors Turkey,” which dashingly
honors the South Carolina leaders who have
called Edgefield home.
PEACHY KEEN SCENE
DON’T DRINK
AND FLY
Columbia’s iconic beer-maker,
Hunter-Gatherer Brewery, has
produced some of the South’s
best beer for more than two
decades. But it had to go back
nearly a century to open its second location. Visit the full-scale
brewery, tap room and restaurant located in a restored 1929
Curtiss-Wright Hangar, an
urban ruin at the municipal airport gentrified into a fun place
to clink glasses with friends.
Gaffney’s Peachoid has to be the most photographed of all fruit-shaped water tanks. Its leaf
alone is 60 feet long! Few can pass up a chance
to take a selfie with this small town’s enormous
fruit, designed to commemorate the Peach
Capital of South Carolina. Netflix’s House of
Cards made Peachoid’s fame even greater.
