HOMEOWNERSHIP
“
The best things about owning a
home are saving money compared to
renting and building equity. Having
something to call your own is such an
awesome feeling.”
— Evan Dupree,
MassHousing borrower
Operation Welcome Home helps Evan Dupree buy a home in New Bedford
Evan Dupree works for McLaughlin Research Corporation as an Engineering Technician on the Newport Navy Base
and serves in the National Guard. In 2019, he used a MassHousing Operation Welcome Home loan to buy a home
in the Gateway City of New Bedford. Operation Welcome Home provides affordable mortgage financing as well as
closing cost and down payment assistance to members of the Reserves and National Guard, active-duty military,
Veterans and Gold Star Families. Evan worked with Elise Bare from Residential Mortgage Services (RMS), a
MassHousing-approved lender. His advice to future buyers? “Do your research and do not rush the process.”
