Cardiovascular Disease
Cardiovascular disease is the underlying cause of death for one of every three deaths in the United States
(American Heart Association, 2018). Cardiovascular disease includes coronary artery disease, which can
cause heart attack, angina, heart failure, and abnormal heart rhythms. There are many modifiable risk
factors for heart disease including tobacco smoking, obesity, poor diet, and a lack of exercise.

Cerebrovascular diseases, the condition that causes a stroke, ranks fifth among the leading causes of
death in the United States (American Heart Association, 2018). Modifiable risk factors for stroke are high
blood pressure, high cholesterol, and diabetes.
