Wood Species
Species Information
Cherry generally has a smooth, uniform grain, and is known for its rich look. Its color
ranges from white to a deep red to a deep reddish-brown. Some sap, light heartwood, and
mineral streaks are acceptable natural characteristics of cherry.
Red or brown finishes will help give the wood a more uniform look. Over time, cherry will
darken and redden as a natural reaction to light.
Cherry is best suited for medium to dark finishes.
Poplar's color varies from pale
yellow to white with some green
and brown mineral.
Alder’s natural color is a
light reddish tan. It
contains little or no
distinct grain lines and
very little color difference
between sapwood and
heartwood.
Variance in color is acceptable as it
is a natural characteristic of the
wood.
The wood species previously listed are known as a "Clear" variations of that species, meaning they are free of any open
knots. However, we also offer "Rustic" versions of our Maple, Hickory, Cherry, & Alder selections.
"Rustic" variations of a wood species differ from Clear variations in that open knots will be prevalent on Rustic
