Facing the Facts
man and woman as his final a ct—God saw that it was “very good”
(Genesis 1:31). The creation of man and woman was like frosting
on the cake of Creation.
So God created man in his own image, in the image of God
he created him; male and female he created them. And
God blessed them. And God said to them, “Be fruitful and
multiply and fill the earth and subdue it, and have dominion
over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and
over every living thing that moves on the earth.” . . . And
God saw everything that he had made, and behold, it was
very good.
GENESIS 1:27-28, 31
It’s important to realize what this means: God was happy with
the way he designed people as sexual beings. God looked at Adam—
his genitals, his ability to become a father, and everything that was
unique about him as a man—and God was delighted with what he
had made. God looked at Eve—her genitals, her ability to carry a
baby inside her body, her breasts to nourish that baby, and everything else that was unique about her as a woman—and God was very
pleased with what he had made.
The Bible says that “the man and his wife were both naked and
were not ashamed” (Genesis 2:25). Adam and Eve were delighted
when they looked at each other. They felt no embarrassment, no
guilt, and no need to hide anything. They knew they were made for
each other. They were different from one another—just as all women
are different from all m
en—and they knew those differences were
something to celebrate.
