CO-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES
“Co-curricular Activities is known as a laboratory of learning”
Co-curricular activities are those activities which are undertaken along with academic studies and supplement
academic curriculum and help in learning by doing. These activities help students to develop problemsolving, reasoning, critical thinking, creative thinking, communication, and collaborative abilities. For
all-round development of a child, there is a need for emotional, physical, spiritual and moral development
that is complemented and supplemented by Co-curricular Activities.
Co-curricular activities play a pivotal role in the holistic development of students. These activities are an
enjoyable and effective way to improve health and well-being, as they can relieve stress, increase fitness,
improve physical and mental health, besides inculcating tolerance and belief in oneself and prepares one for
the 21st Century life and workplaces. Therefore, the importance of co-curricular activities is immense
during school. Keeping this in mind and in pursuit of providing the best to our students, we at K.R. Mangalam
World School, have been organising a plethora of co-activities for our students.
Art is not a mirror held up to reality, but a hammer with which to shape it. Such activities help in bringing
and shaping up artistic qualities hidden in everyone of us. On the other hand, Yoga is often known as the
journey of the self, though the self, to the self. Through Yoga students learn self-discipline and self-control
that leads in bringing awareness and increases concentration skills. Music and dance are all that students
need to exhale out the stress and inhale calmness. It is often needed as part of growing up and learning. Story
telling enhances listening skills amongst children. Books can be our best friends for life, keeping this in
mind and to inculcate reading habits amongst students, reading of story books is included as part of the cocurricular activity from a very young age. In the Life skill’s session, students through activities are made
aware of various important topics-like- self acceptance, kindness, gratitude and thankfulness etc. During
Mental health week, the students were engaged in activities related to mindfulness as it helps the mind to
remain productive. Chess is a brain game played by millions of people worldwide, it is an incredibly
beneficial pastime, because playing chess results in better brain function, improved memory, & cognitive
abilities, strategic thinking and attention improvement. Lastly, Physical education is essential for the
development of motor skills and the enhancement of reflexes. It teaches students the importance of physical
health. They also learnt about the Fit India Movement which is a nation-wide movement in India that helps
to encourage people to remain healthy and fit by including physical activities and sports in their daily lives.
These activities give students an opportunity to understand and appreciate the various virtues in humans and
respect them. It also helps them in comprehending and believing to work hard and to keep themselves happy
and positive in all the given situations.
