MENTAL HEALTH WEEK
MINDFULNESS
Mental Illness Awareness Week (MIAW) was established in 1990 by the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI)
to educate and increase awareness about mental illness. It takes place every year during the first full week of October.
Mental illness awareness week was initiated to break stigmas in communities. Most mental illness appears in the early
to mid-twenties of most and tends to take on average 6-8 years for the affected to step forward and reach out for help
and treatment. Many organizations have begun to lend their help on ending the stigma and assuring society that taking
care of your mental health is just as important as your physical health.
Keeping the same in mind. We at K.R Mangalam World school, GK-II inculcated few activities during the Mental Health
week, where in the students were engaged in a plethora of activities related to mindfulness as it helps the mind to remain
productive.
Mindfulness is often known as a kind of a mental attitude that one may adopt, or a set of techniques that can anchor a
person’s consciousness. It paves way for essential life skills which are-
-
Focus and self-control
Perspective Taking
Communicating
Making Connections
Critical Thinking
Engaged Learning
The students were enthralled with various activities and understood the core importance which helped them achieve
focus and increased concentration. They also made badges for themselves which added the line- “Happy Mind”. They
enjoyed such activities and wore the badges made by them with full honour and were extremely proud.
Such activities give a positive outlook towards all the given situations and motivates a person to work hard and keep
themselves happy and positive.
We should just remember that- Mindfulness gives you time. Time gives you choices. Choices, skillfully made, leads
towards freedom.
