LIFE IN THE ERA OF COVID-19
BY ANHAD SINGH- 10E
The year 2020 has been a memorable one. By now, all of us have become accustomed to
living and coping up with this pandemic, which has adversely affected out monotonous
lifestyle. The COVID-19 count in Delhi stands at 392,370 cases as of 5 November with the
positivity rate touching 12.7% in Delhi. With the number of active cases touching the sky and
no certain predictions as to when the ongoing situation is going to end, life after the pandemic
looks hazy, but as we know that every cloud has a silver lining.
This pandemic has taught us many things. We have come to realise the importance of heath.
We have always been after wealth and materialistic possessions, running in a rat race to
accumulate more. Now, we all have understood the importance of health and the vital role
that nature plays in rejuvenating us and maintaining the symbiotic relationship that sustains
life. We have learnt that we don’t have many needs and can make do even with the most basic
requirements. The entire COVID-19 scenario has brought to light the importance of family
relations and spending more time with our loved ones. With our mobility being restricted due
to nationwide lockdowns being imposed, we have come to see how to cope up with these
adverse times and how we can do our part in helping others whether it be giving them food
essentials or carpooling.
With schools and other educational institutions being closed since March 2020, the meaning
of education, as we perceive it, has come to change. With schools and colleges shifting to
online classes, students have also learnt how to utilise technology and make it advantageous
for them. Whether it be learning how to operate new apps such such as Microsoft
Teams/Zoom, how to submit assignments online and how to toggle between various
applications in order to get doubts clarified, students have learnt how to revolutionise
education. With online classes gaining more and more popularity, it is not extraordinary to
expect that online classes may replace classroom learning in the future as well.
We should come to recognise the fact that every coin has two sides and that technology can
act as both a boon and a bane for students especially in the current situation when everything
is happening online. Reducing luxury requirements and surviving with only essentials should
be encouraged along with minimising the need to step out of our houses. Ensuring that we
follow all social distancing norms and complying with the government instructions must also
be followed. Additionally, one can visit government websites such as “mygov.in/covid-19”,
“mohfw.gov.in” or even the COVID-19 homepage of “delhigovt.nic.in” for additional
information. As it is rightly said that “The darkest hour is just before dawn”, let us hope that
the curve flattens and the pandemic ends soon.
