PILOTING
NEW TECHNOLOGIES
THE POLICE FOUNDATION CONTINUES TO PILOT NEW TECHNOLOGIES AND
PROVIDE RESOURCES AND SERVICES THAT PROTECT THE PUBLIC AND THE POLICE.
Throughout our history, the Police Foundation purchased the first bullet-resistant vests before
they became standard issue for the Department. In 2019, the Foundation continued this legacy by
purchasing 550 new light-weight detective vests for the Detectives Vest Pilot Program, and another
1,100 more in 2022.
In 2022, the Foundation provided a new a state-of-the-art AEV TraumaHawk Ambulance and
equipment for the NYPD Emergency Medical Squad 10 in Long Island City, Queens. This life-saving
equipment will help ensure the safety and well-being of the members of the NYPD, who risk their
lives protecting others day in and day out.
The Police Foundation provided funding for the Real Time Crime Center at Police Headquarters and
the NYPD’s Emergency Mobile Response Van, which play crucial roles in improving the department’s
access to timely, accurate and thorough information needed to deploy its resources. The Emergency
Mobile Response Van is dispatched to critical incidents including police officer involved shootings,
terrorist attacks, active shooter situations, and crime scenes at which immediate assistance of
an analyst is required onsite. It is an instrumental tool in helping the NYPD to identify individuals
involved in criminal activity, providing current addresses, registered vehicles, associates and other
background information on the individuals wanted in connection to a crime.
This year, the Police Foundation is providing funding for the purchase of an additional, brand
new, state-of-the-art Emergency Mobile Response Van. With upgraded technology and durability,
NYPD investigators can arrive to crime scenes swiftly and establish reliable connections for the
information transfer between the field and their counterparts at the Real Time Crime Center, and
then disseminate crucial intelligence to the Department’s members of the service citywide.
Because of the generosity of our supporters, the New York City Police
Foundation has been at the forefront of effecting police services in a
meaningful way for over 50 years.
