Assess personality
to help clients find
a fitting occupation
There’s more to
helping people find a job than simply
matching interests and likes to employment opportunities. If it were that easy,
almost everyone would love their job.
The truth is many people dread going to
work every day. What’s worse, they know
there’s something better out there—but
they don’t know how to find it. They feel
stuck, and that’s why they turn to you.
The SDS helps your clients find a career
they love. Based on John Holland’s
RIASEC theory that both personalities

and occupations can be classified into the
same six types, the SDS measures your
client’s aspirations, activities, and talents.
It then generates a Summary Code that
is matched to Occupational Codes and
programs of study tied to information on
the O*NET. Matching codes means your
client is more likely to find job satisfaction.
The StandardSDS takes only about 30
minutes to complete and is available on
paper or online (via self-directed-search.
com). The online report tailors results to a
variety of clients, including students and
veterans. Results are interactive and link
to occupational information on the O*NET,
active job openings, and recent salary data.
