Q:
What are some tips to make students
more resilient this year?
Theo: Promote and foster relationship building with both adults
and peers. Encourage physical activity, which helps the brain
calm us down during stressful times. Also, do more listening—
allow students to speak and problem solve on their own.
Darla: Stay connected with family and friends via phone, email,
and videoconferencing. For teachers, consider a “feelings” check
at the beginning of the day or class.
Terri: Educate yourself. This is all new, and flexibility is the name of
the game. Stay up to date through the NASP, CDC, and WHO websites.
Carrie: Monitor and limit the use of social media. Misinformation about
the pandemic and negativity are prevalent in social media and can
increase anxiety. Additionally, teachers can reassure students school is
safe and explain the precautions schools have taken to ensure a healthy
and safe learning environment.
Homeschooling not going so well?
Being a parent is not always easy, but with the
pandemic, it can be filled with challenges that
can lead to unhealthy levels of stress.
