HERE TO HELP YOU
MAKE CONFIDENT
COURSE SELECTIONS!
Lumen Christi embraces our core value to achieve excellence! We
inspire academic achievement by challenging students to gather
information about their educational track, while empowering their
personal accountability to excel. Each year, we strive to improve our
course selection process so that parents and students have the information
they need to make confident decisions. We will provide multiple times
to turn in course selection sheets with a final deadline of Tuesday,
March 22nd, 2022 for all grades. Ultimately, this will help us better
leverage class loads, determine teacher schedules earlier, and provide
you a schedule that is built on confidence.

Course Registration Process:
We encourage parents and students to attend their grade level
Priority Course Registration Advisory Workshop. You may
choose to turn in your course selection sheet at the event,
however, priority registration is given for attending the event
and is not contingent on making course commitments that night.
You have the option to turn in the course selection sheet at a
later date in the “Next Step” timeline and still receive priority
registration due to your attendance. For Priority Registration, at
any time, FACTS Enrollment is required. Please review “Next
Steps” outlined on the opening pages of this Newsletter.
To boost confidence in course selections, we will assist you
with criteria that will help you with decision-making: Aspire
Test Scores, teacher recommendations, and current grades will
be used. Students who do not meet the recommended criteria
to register for Advanced, Honor, or AP classes will be asked
to write a brief paper on the reasoning “why” they should be
considered for application.

A physical is required before a student may participate in athletics and
must be on file at the school. A current year physical is one given on
or after April 15. In addition, students entering Grade 7 or new to the
Jackson Catholic Schools provide a checkpoint for the County Health
Department to verify if immunizations and/or waivers are on record
for students to attend school. If immunizations are not current, parents
must make an appointment with the County Health Department or their
family physician to have the vaccinations administered, or sign a waiver.
MHSAA Athletic Physical forms are available in the Main Office or
from the physician’s office.
2022 – 2023 Course Selection Changes will be accepted
ONLY during the window of August 1 through September
20. We know that course changes may occur. By providing
multiple opportunities and “Next Steps”, we hope to reduce
course change requests and the cost to you and the school. We
ask that you choose courses carefully and consider the student
workload that is required for multiple, advanced-level courses
along with extracurricular activities. With each course change
request, a $20 fee must accompany the request. Scheduling of
courses is based on initial choices and desired changes may not
be available even with the request. Course Selection forms will
be available in the Main Office and from the Registrar.

Dual Enrollment
Lumen Christi facilitates Dual Enrollment with
Baker College, Spring Arbor University, Jackson College,
and encourages Dual Enrollment at any location.
For Dual Enrollment to be reimbursed by the State of Michigan, students must take a noncore
class (such as writing, sociology, or psychology) during the school year. The facilitating college
will arrange for payment to be made by the state. Students may have up to 10 classes paid
for during their high school career. These classes can count for college credit or both college
and high school credit, but the preference must be indicated in advance. Students who elect to
receive high school credit for their class will receive credit on the AP/College weighted scale
towards their GPA for up to four courses. Students enrolled in Dual Enrollment may have the
option to take an online course during the school day in our library/Media Center. Information
about Dual Enrollment is available on “Academics” page on the Lumen Christi website.
Advanced Placement Classes
Lumen Christi Catholic School offers eight Advanced Placement Courses: AP Calculus, AP Language, AP Literature, AP Government,
AP Chemistry, AP US History, AP Psychology and AP World History. To receive the AP designation on their transcript, students must take the
AP exam at the end of the year. Students in an AP course receive a grade in their GPA based on the AP weighted scale. Students enrolled in 3
or more AP or Dual Enrollment classes are eligible for a study period to be scheduled into their school day. Please indicate your desire for this
study period at your initial schedule meeting.
AP Classes:
• AP Calculus, AP Chemistry, and AP Literature are intended for Grade 12 (Grade 11 in some cases)
• AP Government, AP Language, and AP Psychology are intended for Grades 12 or 11
• AP US History and AP World History are intended for Grades 11 or 10
