“BE WHO YOU ARE,
AND BE THAT WELL”
– St. Francis de Sales
Mrs. Kristovic visits rising grade 7 at the
Jackson Catholic Elementary Schools.
At Lumen Christi, we are charged with creating Disciples of Christ,
preparing students to employ their faith, academic excellence, and
leadership to change the world for Christ. The student’s success plan
begins with Grade 6 students rising to Grade 7 when they register for
courses. On March 9, 10 and 11, Mrs. Kristovic will visit the Jackson
Catholic elementary schools and provide your student with a course
registration sheet that will guide you through course selections. The
elementary schools work alongside our faculty, aligning curriculum to
prepare your student for courses offered at the middle school level and
will help you decide if you need assistance. We are committed to student
success and working with you and your student to be their personal best.
Students experience a well-rounded set of academic core courses in Grade
7 to include math, science, English, literature and religion. Starting in
Grade 7, students also have some choices. Most students rotate through
a series of one-quarter courses that serve to enrich their educational
experience, and some students choose a full year of band, forgoing the
rotation of enrichment courses. Enrichment courses include: Physical
Education, General Music, Art, and Technology. Grade 7 students have
a choice of Pre-Algebra or an Intermediate Algebra course that advances
math eligibility for Calculus by the end of high school.

Course Selection Registration Advisory
Workshop on March 17th
Following Mrs. Kristovic’s visit to the Jackson Catholic elementary
schools to provide students course selection information sheets,
you and your student are invited to an Advisory Workshop on
Wednesday, March 17 to register course selections. The Workshop
will be from 5– 7 pm in the Lumen Christi Library.
We ask parents to bring their course selection sheet to the Workshop,
where Lumen Christi faculty will be on hand to answer questions about
course selections and the opportunities ahead for students. We will help
you with decisions and assist with the construction of a roadmap that will
help you and your student steer a path for personal success as a Titan. If
you should choose not to attend the workshop, your student must turn in
their signed form to their 6th grade teacher by Friday, March 19th.

HERE TO HELP YOU
MAKE CONFIDENT
COURSE SELECTIONS!
Lumen Christi embraces our core value to achieve excellence! We inspire
academic achievement by challenging students to gather information
about their educational track, while empowering their personal
accountability to excel. Each year, we strive to improve our course
selection process so that parents and students have the information they
need to make confident decisions. We will provide multiple times to
turn in course selection sheets with a final deadline of Friday, March
19th, 2021 for all grades. Ultimately, this will help us better leverage
class loads, determine teacher schedules earlier, and provide you a
schedule that is built on confidence.
Parents begin to look at what their student will need for class
instruction as early as June. Our Textbook List is found on
our website under ‘Textbooks & Technology.’ Textbooks
may be purchased online from any textbook seller website —
using the ISBN number provided on the textbook list. This list
is for Grades 7-12 and includes textbooks, workbooks, class
fees, and classroom textbook rental fees required for a given
course.
In addition to this list, we provide a Grade 7 & 8 Supply List
to help Grade 6 students transition to middle school and be
ready for the first day of school. As a convenience, a Parent
Textbook Exchange is provided on the LC website (also under
‘Textbooks & Technology’) where parents may communicate
with each other regarding purchasing/trading used books.
Grade 7 and Grade 8 parents purchase textbooks independently
using the textbook exchange or other online retailers.
Please Note that Grade 7 students do not purchase an iPad for
class instruction and instead use the MAC Lab, Library Lab,
and Grade 7 and 8 technology lab to familiarize themselves
with a digital learning platform. Grade 8 students, who take
advancement courses, may choose to purchase an iPad and
download textbook applications for a fee at Packet Pick Up or
purchase a hardcover textbook for class.

Course Registration Process:
We encourage parents and students to attend their grade level
Priority Course Registration Advisory Workshop. You may
choose to turn in your course selection sheet at the event,
however, priority registration is given for attending the event
and is not contingent on making course commitments that night.
You have the option to turn in the course selection sheet at a
later date in the “Next Step” timeline and still receive priority
registration due to your attendance. For Priority Registration, at
any time, FACTS Enrollment is required. Please review “Next
Steps” outlined on the opening pages of this Newsletter.
To boost confidence in course selections, we will assist you
with criteria that will help you with decision-making: NWEA
test scores, teacher recommendations, and current grades will
be used. Students who do not meet the recommended criteria
to register for Advanced, Honor, or AP classes will be asked
to write a brief paper on the reasoning “why” they should be
considered for application.
A $50 Late Course Registration Fee applies beginning on
Monday, March 22nd If you choose to delay and not turn-in
your course selection sheet prior to this date, the $50 late fee
applies. All Course Selection turn-in dates have a prerequisite
of FACTS Enrollment before the registration is confirmed as
received (turned in).
Athletic Physicals and Required
Immunizations to Attend School
A physical is required before a student may participate in athletics and
must be on file at the school. A current year physical is one given on
or after April 15. In addition, students entering Grade 7 or new to the
Jackson Catholic Schools provide a checkpoint for the County Health
Department to verify if immunizations and/or waivers are on record
for students to attend school. If immunizations are not current, parents
must make an appointment with the County Health Department or their
family physician to have the vaccinations administered, or sign a waiver.
MHSAA Athletic Physical forms are available in the Main Office or
from the physician’s office.
2021-2022 Course Selection Changes will be accepted
ONLY during the window of August 2nd through September
20th. We know that course changes may occur. By providing
multiple opportunities and “Next Steps”, we hope to reduce
course change requests and the cost to you and the school. We
ask that you choose courses carefully and consider the student
workload that is required for multiple, advanced-level courses
along with extracurricular activities. With each course change
request, a $20 fee must accompany the request. Scheduling of
courses is based on initial choices and desired changes may not
be available even with the request. Course Selection forms will
be available in the Main Office and from the Registrar.
REMEMBER!
FACTS Enrollment is required to register course
selections and attend the Workshops.
