DREAMING BIG WITH WRITER, PRODUCER,
AND ACTOR CHAD SANDERS
In July, boys and girls from Brooklyn’s Leadership Development Program met
up with Chad Sanders, perhaps best known for his work as a writer on Issa
Rae’s HBO Max series “Rap Sh!t.” During their time together, Sanders shared his
journey, speaking about making a decision to leave his career in Tech at Google
and take a leap of faith towards something he was truly passionate about,
writing. Chad also challenged the youth to think about their own dreams and
what it would take to achieve them. Chad asked everyone to write down their
biggest dream on a piece of paper. Then he asked them a vital question: What’s
holding you back from reaching this dream?
The writer, actor, and director shared that "It was a pleasure to spend time with
the PeacePlayers kids. Their curiosity, ambition and enthusiasm was inspiring. I
expect great things from them and the future of the program."
FASHION AND AND EQUITY BECOME ONE WHEN
YALE STUDENTS VISIT BROOKLYN LDP
In the Fall of 2022, Brooklyn’s LDP hosted a group of students from Yale
University who were collaborating on a thesis about athletic attire, fashion,
equity, and social cohesion. In a session facilitated by Coach Wray and Coach D.,
students participated on the court in ball activities, but they also got to mentor
Brooklyn participants on the topic of college and career readiness. The students
shared their experiences from high school and the hard work they put in to get
into Yale.
Additionally, Brooklyn participants joined the Yale students for a fireside chat
themed around fashion, confidence, and equity. The LDP girls were tasked with
creating a “tunnel fit,” the attire that is worn during arena entrances at a game,
for a WNBA player, which highlighted the intersection of fashion and social
cohesion. Overall, it was a unique experience for both the students and our LDP,
and the students even said that input from Brooklyn LDP would help inform
their thesis.
