Multicultural Percussion
NEW!
Cajons from Peru
Originally developed in Peru during the 18th century, the cajon has become popular not only for Afro-Peruvian music, but in blues,
pop, world music, and jazz. In addition, Atempo cajons are perfect for introducing multicultural rhythms to young learners. All Atempo
instruments are handcrafted in Peru and feature high quality furniture grade woods and dovetail joinery.
Dos Voces Cajon (Two Voices)
Designed with two playing surfaces and the
sound port on the side, this cajon offers two
distinct sounds, or voices. One side has a
traditional Peruvian sound with no snares and a
partially sealed playing surface. Sound from this
side is warm and mellow with a pure bass tone
- perfect for softer songs or acoustic sets. The
opposite side has snare strings running from top
to bottom against the back of the playing surface
which results in a more assertive sound that is
better for traditional flamenco playing. Made by
hand in Peru of solid, furniture-grade panels of
Mohena, with dovetail joints and a beautiful gloss
finish. Includes a free gig bag. CJ-DOSV-01
El Cajonito (The Little Cajon)
A scaled-down ¾ size Flamenco-style cajon
perfect for young players. Made of Monterey Pine
panels and constructed using dovetailed joints.
The playing and resonant surfaces are made from
multi-ply Lupuna and Spanish Cedar. Crafted
by hand in Peru for Sol by A Tempo Percussion.

El Artesano Cajón
A TEMPO Percussion’s El Artesano Cajón is
made in Peru, considered by most to be the
birthplace of the cajón as an instrument. The
body of this cajón is made from select pieces
of solid Mohena, American Muskwood and
Tropical Walnut with a multi-ply Spanish Cedar
and Lupuna playing surface and resonant side.
El Artesano Cajón features snare wires designed
and placed to reduce their sound when playing
the bass tone without sacrificing any snap on a
slap tone. The result is a cajón that balances the
best sonic characteristics of both a traditional
cajón and a Flamenco cajón. Free gig bag
included! El Artesano is a cajón that balances the
best sonic characteristics of both a traditional cajón and a Flamenco cajón. It has a
warm, booming bass as well as a snappy slap tone. To achieve this balance, this cajón
features snare wires designed and placed to reduce their sound when playing the
bass tone without sacrificing any snap on a slap tone. Artisans painstakingly create the
panels for the body of the cajón by selecting and using individual pieces of hardwood.
Once the panels are created, the cajón is built using dovetail joints and then finished
in a furniture-grade finish. Crafted by hand in Peru. CJ-ELART-01
Shell Chimes
A TEMPO shell chimes are made from the seed husks of the Shacapa bush strung from an
attractive American Muskwood mantle. The delicate, water-like sound of this instrument adds
a similar effect to a rain-stick, but the timbre is lower, more like that of a stream or brook.
With this instrument you have more control than a rain-stick and the ability to make the
sound continuous. Shacapa seed husks create a gentle, water-like sound. Attractive American
Muskwood (Red Requia) mantle. Includes a padded clamshell bag for fewer tangles. Made in
Peru. PA-CHSH-01
