FRESHWATER FISHERIES
1.
The black bass (largemouth bass & spotted bass) size and creel limits on Caney Creek
Reservoir in Jackson Parish have changed to a 10 fish daily creel limit and no minimum
size limit.
MARINE FISHERIES

1. In September 2018, the Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries Commission adopted a Notice
of Intent that includes the prohibition of recreational take or possession of female blue
crab beginning the second Monday in September 2019, lasting for 35 days (Sept. 9 Oct. 13, 2019). Please check our website for the most recent information.
2. During 2019, the use of recreational crab traps will be prohibited in designated derelict
crab trap cleanup areas. Please check our website for the most recent information.
3. The recreational bag limit and recreational size limit for gray triggerfish has changed
to 1 fish per person within the aggregate and 15 inches minimum fork length. The
closed season for the recreational harvest of triggerfish has been changed to add an
additional fixed closed season from Jan. 1 through the end of February along with the
June 1 - July 31 closure of each year.
4. The minimum size limit of mutton snapper has changed from 16 to 18 inches total
length and the hogfish size limit has changed from 12 to 14 inches minimum fork
length. The daily possession limit for mutton snapper has also changed to no more
than 5 mutton in the 10 snapper aggregate limit.
5. The recreational bag limit for king mackerel has changed from 2 to 3 fish per person
per day.
6. There is a new season structure for the recreational harvest of greater amberjack
with fixed closed seasons from Jan. 1 - April 30, June 1 - July 31, and Nov. 1 - Dec. 31
of each year. The recreational season is open May 1-31 and again from Aug. 1 - Oct.
31 or until the quota is reached.
7. Red grouper daily limits have changed to no more than 2 red grouper in the 4 grouper
aggregate.
