WMA SCHEDULES
PEASON RIDGE
Owner: U.S. Army (74,309 acres, Lake Charles Office)
Self-clearing permit required daily for all activities. All or portions of the area may
be closed daily due to military activities. Information on open areas and special ATV
regulations can be accessed at the following website: https://home.army.mil/polk/index.
php/my-Fort-Polk/fort-polk-huntin. Hunters are cautioned not to pick up any foreign
material or objects while hunting on the WMA. Also, it is mandatory for hunters to check
the open area maps, located at check stations, daily for sudden closures.
Deer Archery (either-sex): Sept. 21 - Jan. 15
Deer Firearms (bucks only): Oct. 28 - Nov. 28 and Dec. 14 - Jan. 1
Deer Firearms (either-sex): Oct. 26-27 and Nov. 29-30, mandatory deer check. Dec. 1, selfclearing permit.
Deer Primitive Firearms (either-sex): Oct. 12-18, self-clearing permit.
Turkey: April 4 - May 3
Turkey Youth Lottery: March 28. Hunting by pre-application lottery only. Contact the Lake
Charles Field Office for details.
Small Game and Waterfowl: Same as outside EXCEPT WATERFOWL CLOSED after 2 p.m.
and EXCEPT CLOSED Oct. 26-27 and Nov. 29 - Dec. 1 and EXCEPT CLOSED to squirrel hunting during the spring season. Squirrel hunting with dogs allowed Dec. 2-13 and Jan. 2 Feb. 29. Hunter Orange or Blaze Pink must be worn when bucks only gun hunts for deer
are in progress.
Feral Hogs: May be taken by properly licensed hunters from Sept. 21 - Jan. 1. In addition,
hunters may hunt feral hogs with shotguns loaded with buckshot or slugs from Jan. 2 Feb. 29. Hunters must display 400 square inches of Hunter Orange or Blaze Pink and wear
a Hunter Orange or Blaze Pink cap during special shotgun season for feral hogs.
POINTE-AUX-CHENES
Owner: LDWF (35,267 acres, Lafayette Office)
All nighttime activities prohibited. Possession of more than one daily limit of fish/crab/
shrimp while on the WMA is prohibited. Self-Clearing Permit required for all activities.
Self-clearing permits available at Grand Bayou Boat Launch and at Point Farm gate behind
Montegut Middle School or through the LDWF Self-clearing Permit app or internet/web
portal. Trapping is allowed only by written agreement with LDWF, Coastal WMAs, Wildlife
Division. Parking of vehicles on levees prohibited.
Feral Hogs: May be taken by properly licensed hunters from Oct. 1 - Feb. 29. In addition,
hunters may hunt feral hogs with archery equipment, shotguns loaded with buckshot or
slugs, or rimfire rifles no larger than .22 caliber from Feb. 16 - March 31. Hunters must also
display 400 square inches of Hunter Orange or Blaze Pink and wear a Hunter Orange or
Blaze Pink cap during special shotgun season for feral hogs.
