TOGETHER WE CAN
DR. SUNDRA
WOODFORD
D
r. Sundra Woodford is a leader and mental health advocate in Macon-Bibb. Her advocacy regarding
mental health issues is born from the personal experience of a family member having schizophrenia and
to her history of day to day work in distressed neighborhoods. She has seen first hand how untreated
mental health challenges take a toll on an individual’s life.
“River Edge Foundation has affected me in a very personal way. It has invited
an opportunity to bring heightened sensitivity to my
uncle’s schizophrenia and created a space to have
a conversation about my family’s feelings and fears
surrounding mental health,” Dr. Woodford explains.
As an advocate, Dr. Woodford helps make life better
for individuals in need of quality mental health, addiction recovery
and intellectual and developmental disability treatments and supports. “I
have gained a better understanding of the local prevalence of diagnosed
mental illnesses, gaps in access to services and the need for an (improved)
approach to increase efficacy and support,” she says.
We are so grateful for Dr. Woodford’s work to create a better future for
our community. Together, we make life better.
