DAY TWO: NOVEMBER 29 - TUESDAY
When Jesus, born of Mary, comes into the world, it is to defeat once
and for all the enemy that pursues and threatens us harm. We are not
evacuated, but rescued. We are not whisked away to an isolated locale,
but we live in the midst of victory. Everyday is a day of victory. John
writes: The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the works
of the devil (I John 3:8). Allow that reality to sink in. As the poet king
wrote: Surely goodness and mercy will pursue me all the days of my
life. (Psalm 23:6)
Christmas is a reminder (among many reminders) that we live in the
midst of a victory. The reality of evil has been defeated and one day the
presence of evil will be completely removed. It will be no more. We
have been rescued, not evacuated. This is why the Father sent the Son
into the world. This is the Father’s world and always will be.
We have been rescued not evacuated.
