DAY THREE: November 30 - Wednesday
What had happened to God’s crea on and people? A singular moment
in which a single bite into a forbidden fruit did not usher in the golden
age of human autonomy but opened the door to catastrophe a er
catastrophe (Genesis 3). The long history of Abraham, Moses, Jacob,
David and the prophets pointed to a future with God and humans
together again. And yet, Israel had become the poster people of
broken humanity throughout the world. The world is thus, thus have
we made it. Ugh!
Christmas is a reminder that God will not leave humans alone. We are
His project. He will not leave humans in their predicament even if He
has to become one of them, live among them and then personally
redeem them from the sickness of their souls—sin! Jesus, the Son of
God, came into the world not to pat us on the back, but to speak, to
serve, to su er and to save. Hope is rekindled in our hearts because, as
the angel said: “I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all
the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you;
he is the Messiah, the Lord” (Luke 2:10-11).
Think on this today: Christmas is the signpost that God IS pu ng
everything back together…even on this very day.
❅FOR CONTEMPLATION:
Colossians 1:19-22
❅FOR REFLECTION:
What evidence is there that humans can save themselves? What is the
evidence to the contrary?
What do the ac ons of God in the history of humans tell us about the
nature and character of God?
What does the life of Jesus tell us about the inten ons of God for all
crea on including human beings?
