If Posi-Pin® Safety Shear Breaks
52
The Posi-Pin Safety Shear is designed to break at the shear
point to protect the machine from internal damage or timing
issues when you hit something you shouldn’t while sewing.
The pins are intended to be sacrificial, and replacing a
broken one is easy.
1. Remove the broken Posi-Pin and discard it (52).
A
2. Insert a new Posi-Pin into one of the
holes in the balance wheel.
3. Maintain light pressure on the Posi-Pin and rotate
the balance wheel toward you until the Posi-Pin locks
into a mating hole in the balance wheel bushing.
4. Push the new Posi-Pin all the way in until the shoulder
(A) is flush against the balance wheel face.
5. Tilt the machine back and remove the retaining ring (B),
bobbin case (C) and gib hook (D). Check both parts
for burrs or damage from a needle strike (p. 38, 56).

6. Remove any burrs by polishing the parts with emery
paper or a fine file. Or replace if badly damaged.
7. Install a new needle and you are ready to keep sewing.
