SEWING TIP: INVISIBLE SEAM CLOSURE
After inserting the pillow form into your pillow cover, follow the steps
below to sew an invisible seam to close your pillow cover.
Step 1:
Thread a curved needle and knot the
doubled thread. Insert needle into beginning of folded
hem where machine stitches end and bring needle
out 1/4" toward sewing machine stitches. Tuck tail
of thread ends into folded opening to hide them.
Step 2:
On opposite side of folded hem, insert
needle directly across from where thread exits and
stitch 1/4" away from machine stitches so your handstitched needle entry and exit points are parallel.
Step 3:
Move needle directly across and
insert on opposite side of folded hem.
Move the needle forward 1/4" each time
and work back and forth across folded
hem to close the pillow opening.
Step 4:
Every few stitches, pull the
thread taut and the stitches will close up
tight and disappear into the fabric.
Step 5:
When you reach other end of pillow
opening, sew several times on top of machine
stitches to lock hand stitches in place.
Step 6:
To hide thread, insert needle once
more in middle of hand-sewn seam and exit
toward invisible stitches. Trim thread flush
with fabric. Your pillow is now finished!
