PHILANTHROPY
SYHealth raised a record number of unrestricted funds which
play a critical role in meeting unexpected funding needs for the
programs and services that we provide.

La Gran Fiesta, our 50th Anniversary Gala honored Carmen
Martinez, one of our Founding Mothers, and Lisette Farrell, a
San Diego Philanthropist. It was a record-breaking year for our
gala with 850 guests in attendance. The 14th Annual Clásico
de Golf tournament was also successful with 100 golfers in
attendance. Combined, these two signature fundraising events
netted nearly $750,000.
We are grateful for our supporters’ belief in our mission and
participation in our fundraising events which provide additional
pediatric and senior care services across San Diego County.

In September we collaborated with community partners to make
an even greater impact for the patients and families in our care.
El Zapatón was a special back-to-school event held at our
Maternal and Child Health Center, where 65 families were in
attendance and 168 children received a pair of new shoes and
backpacks. We graciously thank each sponsor and community
partner for supporting the families we serve during the school
year: Talamantes Immigration Law Firm, Community Health
Group, Fox Deportes, Gabriel Tortillerias and Mexican Food,
MAAC, MC Tax Solutions, Patron’s Corner, Centro Familiar Cristiano
and Sketchers.
In October 2019, Holland America Line (HAL), an SYHealth
Corporate Partner, generously donated a gourmet lunch for 150
guests onboard the beautiful Eurodam signature-class ship. It was
a memorable day as guests enjoyed the beautiful views of the
bay and toured the ship. Guests also enjoyed a special viewing
of breathtaking footage of the Planet Earth II film featuring live
orchestra music in partnership with BBC.
As the year came to an end, we successfully hosted our first
Community Posada at the San Ysidro Health Center. We
celebrated with a ribbon-cutting for the renovation of the adult
medicine clinic and the restoration of our iconic mural. The 500
families in attendance enjoyed tamales and hot chocolate. Santa
Claus made a special apperance giving away 300 plush toys to
children of all ages. Guests received resources, giveaways, and
information from participating community organizations.
