About San Ysidro Health - Kimball Highland
National City, CA 91950
San Ysidro Health - Kimball Highland is a new 134,000 sq.
ft. state-of-the-art health facility, designed to holistically
connect families with health services, affordable
housing, transportation and community engagement.
This $50 million community investment will integrate a
Program of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly (PACE) on
the first floor, a Federally Qualified Health Center on
the second floor, and a 3-story underground parking
structure as well as affordable housing for seniors and
families to help promote an intergenerational approach,
all within a transit-oriented village adjacent to the
Waters Nutrition Center, shopping, cultural institutions,
and a beautifully refurbished public park that connects
by bikeway to the San Diego bay.
Together, with our project partners, we are focused
on creating a space to overcome barriers of isolation,
transportation, outreach, and more time to serve,
integrate, and empower families and seniors.
The affordable housing which will be developed
independently, will consist of an East and West Tower
totaling 145 housing units.
San Ysidro Health - Kimball Highland has been
thoughtfully planned out to facilitate availability,
accessibility, and continuity of services in order to
eliminate barriers to healthcare access and utilization
for the area’s most vulnerable population.
Currently, the City of National City:
• Has the highest rate in San Diego county
of seniors living in poverty - over 20% vs
the county rate of 7% according to CPI study.
• Zip codes are over represented in
COVID deaths - many were seniors due to
overcrowded multigenerational households.
This caused essential workers to unintentionally
infect their elderly loved ones.
• Has the highest rate of chronic illnesses
amongst seniors in San Diego County.
This includes diabetes, hypertension, and
respiratory disease which impacts their quality
of life significantly especially if left untreated.
