Canal’s rich history, fascinating features
and vigilant operations through interactive exhibits, activities and Park Ranger led programs. Board a retired 40-foot patrol boat.
Scan live radar and camera monitors to locate vessels in the waterway. Investigate what’s inside
ships that transit the canal. View films about the canal in the small theater. Discover wildlife
that live in or around the canal. Observe the bustling activity in an interpretive pollinator garden. Participate in free interpretive programs like guided hikes, story time, Junior Ranger and
more. Or ... just relax and soak in the waterfront views from the front deck. US Army Corps
of Engineers Park Rangers staff the Center and provide information about the canal and its
recreational opportunities. A small bookstore is also offered.

As one of the region’s most innovative
art museums, the Cahoon Museum of American Art is a fun and inspiring place to visit.
The Museum presents contemporary art exhibitions in a spacious modern gallery, as well
as in the historic 1782 Crocker homestead which serves as its home. Visitors of all ages are
welcome to learn about art and art history, to enjoy family-friendly events and participate in
creative programming. The 2022 season presents the exhibits, Action/Abstraction Redefined,
a look at contemporary Native Art and Scrimshaw: The Whaler’s Art, presenting the story of
scrimshaw, the nautical art form created by whalemen during the international whaling trade
of the 19th century.
The museum has an extensive gift shop and offers docent tours. Programs include
artist receptions, the Art Cart, open houses, special events for children and families, lectures,
demonstrations, and art classes. Information on all the Museum’s activities is available at

The Museum serves as a unique one-stop opportunity to engage with regional art and culture.
