Thinking Outside of the Box: Current Ethical Topics in
Human Subjects Research
Patients tend to ask questions about things they do not
understand and it is our job to be prepared for those
questions. Patients sign consent forms when they feel
confident enough to do so and they gain confidence
from seeing recruiters with confidence. Confidence is
also paired with comfort. Always emphasize your
confidentiality section and what exactly you are
collecting or doing with a patient's data. 627

Enrollment and Retention in a Large Multisite Study The "Incredible" Superpowers You Need
During this presentation, pressures and challenges
associated with enrollment and retention will be
discussed. We know that coordinators are superhuman
and need "incredible" superpowers to address
challenges encountered. The various approaches, and
the associated "incredible" superpowers employed to
address each will be discussed - Flexibility = superelasticity; endurance for the long haul = super-strength;
protective, robust QA and training mechanisms = force
fields; infrastructure for quick adaptability in response
to barriers = super speed; frequent analysis and
reflection to take lessons learned into the future =
clairvoyance; and quality communication across time
and space ensuring comprehensive informed consent
and forming invisible bonds among all study
relationships (within site teams, between site and
sponsor and site to subject) = invisibility. 631
