technicians. With your agreement, a portion
of your care may be provided or observed by
one or more of these students, however all
of your care will be supervised by a licensed
professional and delivered in accordance with
your physician’s orders.
Health Resource Management
Some patients require help in planning for their
health care needs following hospital discharge.
A health resource manager will work with you
and your doctor to help arrange any services or
follow-up care you may need after your hospital
stay. The health resource manager will also be in
contact with your health insurance company to
develop a discharge plan covered by your benefits.
If you want to talk with a health resource
manager while you are in the hospital, please
ask your nurse to contact one. If you need to talk
to your health resource manager after you’ve
returned home, please call the Health Resource
Management Department at 802-447-5079.
Social Services
Hospitalization can be stressful for patients
and families. Our social workers are available to
provide patients and families with emotional
support, advanced care planning, help with
end-of-life decision making, and assistance with
financial concerns. If you would like to talk
with a social worker, please ask your nurse to
contact one, or you may call 802-447-5079 to
reach the Social Services Department.
Housekeeping
Patient rooms and other areas of the hospital
are kept clean and sanitary, thanks to the efforts
of our housekeeping staff. Your room is cleaned
on a daily basis by individuals who take their
jobs very seriously. If you have a concern about
the state of your room, please let your nurse
know or dial extension 6148. Any problems will
be taken care of as quickly as possible.
PATIENT INFORMATION GUIDE
Volunteers
Volunteers contribute countless hours of service
to SVMC. These dedicated individuals provide
many supplemental services throughout the
hospital. In addition to traditional duties such
as delivering mail and flowers, their duties
range from non-medical patient care to office
support to countless special projects.
Volunteers staff the main information desk in
the front lobby, assist visitors to the hospital,
deliver mail and flowers, and transport patients.
Important Services You
May Need
Meeting each patient’s specific needs is a process
that can include various departments within
the hospital. Which departments you come in
contact with during your stay will depend upon
your unique situation. There are some “behind
the scenes” departments with which you’ll have
little— if any — contact, while others may play
a prominent role in your healthcare plan.
Rehabilitation Services
Your recovery process may require that you
work with one or more of our rehabilitation
specialists to improve your functional abilities,
such as walking, talking, or using fine motor
skills. SVMC offers a complete range of rehab
services and programs. Our specialists in
physical, occupational, and speech therapies
design individual treatment programs based
on the specific needs of each patient. A
rehabilitative treatment program may begin
in the hospital setting and continue on an
outpatient basis following discharge.
Pain Management
SVHC supports the safe, effective practice of
