to pain relief, including physical therapy,
medication management, and nonpharmacologic approaches such as Reiki,
guided imageray and the C.A.R.E channel.
Please let your nurse know if you are in
pain or uncomfortable in any way. Prior to
your discharge, your nurse can provide you
with a list of alternative resources for pain
management available in the community.
Diagnostic Imaging Services
During your stay in the hospital or as an
outpatient, your physician may schedule an
imaging exam to help diagnose and treat a
variety of medical disorders. Imaging Services
at SVMC include CT scan, ultrasound, x-ray,
nuclear medicine, and mammography, as well
as magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and
positron emission tomography (PET)/CT.
American Board of Radiology certified
radiologists interpret all images and provide
attending physicians with the most accurate
report to help give a diagnosis. The Department
of Imaging Services can also provide pain relief
with image-guided injections for spine and
peripheral joints.
Cardiopulmonary Services
If your medical condition is affecting your heart
function or ability to breathe, you may require
the services of a cardiopulmonary specialist.
Our cardiopulmonary services include testing
procedures such as cardiac stress testing, EKG,
echo-cardiograms, Holter monitoring, and
pulmonary function testing. In addition to
diagnostic testing, our cardiopulmonary services
provide respiratory care, such as oxygen therapy,
breathing treatments, and ventilator assistance.
Spiritual Support Services
At SVMC, we have found that religious faith and
spiritual practice help some patients cope with
health problems and can be significant in the
healing process. Many clergy members, representing
several denominations, and volunteer chaplains
make regular visitation rounds at the hospital.

Pharmacy
Our in-house pharmacy provides for our
patients’ medication needs. In addition to
preparing and dispensing medications, the
pharmacy monitors each patient’s drug therapy
regimen and provides important information
to physicians and nurses. Our pharmacy also
provides education to help individuals better
understand and adhere to their medication
therapies. The hospital pharmacy ensures that
all medications meet strict guidelines before
the product is made available for use in the
hospital. You may contact a clinical pharmacist
through your nurse.
Medical Records
Your health care team will maintain an ongoing
record detailing your treatment and progress
during your stay with us. SVMC keeps private
and secure medical records about your health.
For more information about how we use or
disclose your medical records, please refer to
the SVHC Notice of Privacy Practices. You may
request a copy of your medical record at any time
by contacting your nurse or Health Information
Services at 802-447-5323.
TeleMedicine Services
Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center’s
TeleMedicine program assists SVMC by
providing 24/7 acute neurology care, intensive
care, psychiatry care, and emergency support.
These teleMedicine services give patients and
their families the highest available level of care
while keeping patients more conveniently close
to home.
Through this advanced system, a team of
board-certified physicians and nurses work
virtually alongside your physician and nurse
teams to evaluate and recommend treatment.
Radiologic images and other relevant medical
information is sent to board-certified specialists
