SVMC Community Health Needs Assessment 2021 - Catalog - Page 31

Locally, respondents to SVMC’s survey cited isolation, and the stress of not seeing loved ones, as the
largest challenge faced during the COVID-19 pandemic. There were no statistically significant differences
in response by any personal characteristic, exemplifying the universal impact of isolation on individuals
regardless of social status or identity.
It is important to note that, like many public health challenges, the COVID-19 pandemic did not
necessarily cause a new epidemic of loneliness and isolation, but instead exacerbated and quickened an
already growing problem.
