Mark Legan, a Purdue Extension agent for seven years prior to starting a farming operation,
operates Legan Livestock & Grain, Inc. in Putnam County, Indiana. It consists of a 2,200 sow
farrow-to-finish operation, finishing around 60,000 pigs annually, and about 1,100 acres of
corn and soybeans in a mostly no-till and cover crop system. Mark has been involved in the
Indiana Pork Producers Association as a past president and has served on the boards of
the National Pork Producers Council and Indiana Soybean Alliance, Indiana Board of Animal
Health and the U.S. Meat Export Federation executive committee. He also has served on
numerous advisory committees and boards for Purdue and other organizations at local,
state and national levels. His bachelor’s degree in animal science was earned in 1982, and
he earned a master’s in Extension education in 1985.
