Sysmex 2023 Winter Newsletter - Flipbook - Page 7
Spring 2022
Mid 1979, I was hired to work for Coulter Electronics. Fresh out
of school with a degree in electronics, I had no idea what I was
getting into. I found most all of the fluidics and pneumatics had
similarities to the electronics I had learned. Now nearly 43 years
in, I have always been in the hematology field of instrumentation
over several companies – and I still love repairing analyzers and
assisting customers!!
We had a Sysmex E-5000 that had a paddle that
mixed the tubes (you had to take the caps off.) All
the urines were hand-dipped, and retics were done
manually with a Miller Disk. And ESRs really took
an entire hour!

For this issue, we went into the Sysmex instrument vault and
pulled out this gem! The Sysmex K-1000™ automated hematology
analyzer was first launched in 1989. It utilized open tube sampling
and analyzed 8 paramaters. It also generated 10 additional analytical
parameters plus WBC, RBC and PLT histograms that printed out on a
tape with the results. There were customers who used this analyzer
for over a decade. Any of you remember using this analyzer or
something like it?n
