Broward County,
the eighth largest Jewish community in the country,
consists of 174,000 persons living in 72,000 Jewish households as of 2016. Of these 174,000
persons, 149,000 are Jewish. This is a decrease of 94,000 Jews since 1997.
This decrease can be traced to the fact that in 1997 there were about 4,100 Jewish households
moving in each year compared to 900 each year in 2016. Also, the number of persons age
65-74 decreased from 46,500 to 23,500 and the number of persons age 75 and over decreased
from 77,000 to 23,000.

Of the 72,000 Jewish households, 17% contain children age 0-17; 28%, a single person living
alone (including 19% who are age 65 and over), and 23%, a married couple with no children
living at home.
The median household income is $82,000 (in 2015 dollars).
4% of households are Orthodox, 30% are Conservative, 28% are Reform, and 37% are Just
Jewish. 25% of Jewish adults never attend synagogue services and 20% attend once per
month or more. 23% of married couples are intermarried.
34% of households are synagogue members, 60% of households participated in some activity
at a synagogue in the past year. 23% of households participated in some activity sponsored by
Chabad in the past year.
12% of households who live south of I 595 are members of the Posnack Jewish Community
Center (JCC) and 35% of households south of I 595 participated in a JCC activity in the past
year. 20% of households are members of some Jewish organization, such as B’nai B’rith or
Hadassah.
61% of households have visited Israel, including 25% who visited on a trip with a Jewish
organization or synagogue.
12% of Jewish adults experienced anti-Semitism in Broward County in the past year. 41% of
Jewish adults perceive a great deal or a moderate amount of anti-Semitism in Broward County.
61% of households donated to a Jewish charity in the past year; 72%, to a non-Jewish charity;
and 23% to the Jewish Federation.
