We just marked the one year anniversary of the white
supremacist attack at the Tree of Life Synagogue in
Pittsburgh. On October 27, 2018, 11 congregants were
murdered in the deadliest anti-Semitic attack in U.S.
history. The shooter allegedly told police that he wanted
to kill Jews, whom he condemned for bringing immigrants
into the country. Let us remember Joyce Fienberg, Richard Gottfried, Rose Mallinger, Jerry
Rabinowitz, Cecil Rosenthal, David Rosenthal, Bernice Simon, Sylvan Simon, Daniel Stein,
Melvin Wax, and Irving Younger. Let us remember Lori Gilbert, murdered in an attack at Chabad
of Poway in California. And let us remember all who have been lost to hate.
These vicious incidents must galvanize us to action – because hate crimes are meant not only
to impact their direct victims, but to target entire communities. So – use your voice each and
every day as an individual and as a member of the Jewish community to stand up against
hate and as an ally.
