Ira M. Sheskin, Ph.D.
Ira M. Sheskin, Ph.D., is the Director of the Jewish Demography Project of the Sue and Leonard Miller
Center for Contemporary Judaic Studies at the University of Miami. He is Professor in the Department
of Geography at the same institution. He served on the Board of the Association for the Social Scientific
Study of Jewry for 15 years.
Dr. Sheskin has completed more than 50 major Jewish community studies for Jewish Federations
throughout the country. He has recently completed studies in Miami, Broward, Houston, St. Petersburg, Omaha, Indianapolis,
and Detroit. He has also been a consultant to numerous synagogues, Jewish day schools, Jewish agencies and Jewish
Community Centers throughout the country. In total, he has completed more than 115 studies for more than 85 Jewish
organizations and commercial entities.
His publications include the following books: Survey Research for Geographers; How Jewish Communities Differ; the American Jewish Year Book 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, and 2019; and Comparisons of Jewish Communities: A
Compendium of Tables and Bar Charts. He is currently working on a book with Arnold Dashefsky (Jewish Options).
Dr. Sheskin also serves on the Oversight Committee of the Berman Jewish DataBank and is an author of the annual
article on the American Jewish population which appears on the Berman Jewish DataBank website and in the American
Jewish Year Book. He currently serves on a committee at the Pew Research Center, advising them on Jewish studies.
He is the author of numerous articles on Jewish demography and related topics.
