Oregon City, Oregon
regon City sits on on the banks of the Willamette River, a tributary of the
Columbia River that cuts through Salem, the capital of Oregon on it’s way
to Portland. But it’s here in its journey that this vibrant river teeming with fish
and recreational opportunity reveals it’s glory - the Willamette Falls. The falls is
a stunning backdrop for your river experience. Whether you boat or float down
river from the falls or view it from a viewpoint, you’ll see the expansive spray
of water that has made it the second largest waterfall by volume in the United
States and the seventeenth widest in the world. The Willamette River not only
has the falls, but also a wide variety of fish species
including salmon, trout, bass, and sturgeon and
is known as one of the best places in the state of
Oregon to catch them all. If you need help casting
your line so the big one doesn’t get away, there are
many professional guides that share the shores or
launch from the banks of Oregon City.
If wide open trails and a glimpse at wildlife is
more your type of catch, you can head over to bike
or hike at Ne w ell Creek Can y on Na tur e Park . Oregon City’s newest recreational
attraction is a mixed-use park right in the middle of the city. Tree lined paths and
a canopy of majestic big leaf maples give you the opportunity to experience
nature at its finest with waterways, falls, and animals like rabbits, fox, beavers and
deer. The day-use area even has a picnic space, so you can catch a real bite. But,
this isn’t the only park ready to welcome you. Our city is home to a multitude of
other places that give you a chance to get away from it all…right here. Canemah
Bluff Na tur e Park gives you a chance to explore a rich diversity of habitats from
wildflowers, rare trees like the Pacific Madrone and Oregon white oak to the
birds that call it home. Walk into the natural area onto trails and you won’t be
surprised to hear warblers, sparrows, and nuthatches calling out to each other to
announce your arrival. Further up the trail look up to the sky and you may see a
hawk or eagle looking for lunch.
If a manicured outdoor setting makes you feel more at home, Oregon City
offers opportunities to do just that with golf courses with a view. Professional
golfer and instructor designed S tone Creek Golf Club boasts a spectacular line
