PRESIDENT’S LETTER
From your President
GREETINGS!
just wanted to provide an update about
what we have been doing here at TSPS.
We held our 昀椀rst quarterly Board of
Directors meeting in Austin on January 27th. The
primary focus of this meeting is to review and
approve the Budget. We also completed a Board
Orientation to educate the incoming Directors
and Of昀椀cers about the history and functions of
this Society. The orientation also included a review of our Meetings Safety & Responsibility Policy, which covers harassment and other unacceptable behaviors, and our Con昀氀ict of Interest Policy.
Though the primary purpose of the meeting is
to handle the business of the Society, we also take
the opportunity to network and socialize with our
friends from across the state. The TSPS Board of
Directors meetings are open to the membership
and welcome your attendance. Our next meeting
will be held in Austin on April 27th.
We will be holding our annual Strategic Planning and third quarterly Board Meeting in San
Antonio at the Menger Hotel. If you are interested in getting more involved, Strategic Planning is
a great place to get started.
I
JOSH W. LEAMONS,
TSPS President
EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
TRENA VANDERHOEVEN,
Education & Events Coordinator

THE TEXAS SURVEYOR March 2024
On January 31, 2024, the Executive Committee
decided by unanimous vote to part ways with our
Executive Director effective February 1, 2024.
With the help of Miguel Escobar, Vice President,
and Steven J. Freeman, II, President Elect, we
immediately began the process of securing our
accounts. Until the position of Executive Director
is 昀椀lled, the affairs of the Society are being overseen by myself and Steven J. Freeman, II. We are
currently in the process of securing the services
of a bookkeeper, and we will begin the search for
our next Executive Director soon. Until the Executive Director position is 昀椀lled, I will continue
spending one day a week in the TSPS of昀椀ce.
TSPS STAFF
For those of you who are concerned about the
state of the Society, rest assured, we are in good
hands. Since we took control of the Society, I
have had the pleasure of working closely with
our staff. Much of the work at the TSPS of昀椀ce is
performed by our capable and skilled staff.
Trena Vanderhoeven, our Education & Events
Coordinator, is responsible for our educational
endeavors. She has extensive experience with
training people and coordinating events and
programs. Trena joined TSPS last fall just before
Convention, and despite being new to the Society, Trena jumped in and got to work. Much of
what went well at Convention is due to Trena’s
hard work and dedication.
Emily Hughes, our Membership Coordinator,
has more than a decade of experience working
in both the public and private sectors managing
databases and content and providing support for
boards and committees. Emily is responsible for
all things membership. She manages the membership database and collects dues and registration fees. Emily also handles ful昀椀llment for books
and merchandise ordered through our store.
Next time you see one of our staff, introduce
yourself and thank them for their hard work.
Until next time,
Josh W. Leamons, TSPS President
