L AD 1929. Liberian missionary
and evangelist William Wadé Harris
dies. He led evangelistic campaigns
in Côte d’Ivoire and Ghana, where
he walked barefoot for thousands
of miles while declaring that
“Jesus Christ must reign.” These
campaigns gathered more than
100,000 converts. Harris was one
of the most successful missionary
evangelists in Africa before World
War II.
