They rejected my advice
and paid no attention when I corrected
them.
Therefore, they must eat the bitter fruit
of living their own way,
choking on their own schemes.
For simpletons turn away from me—
to death.
Fools are destroyed by their own
complacency.
But all who listen to me will live in peace,
untroubled by fear of harm.”

The Benefits of Wisdom
My child,* listen to what I say,
and treasure my commands.
Tune your ears to wisdom,
and concentrate on understanding.
Cry out for insight,
and ask for understanding.
Search for them as you would for silver;
seek them like hidden treasures.

Then you will understand what it means
to fear the LORD,
and you will gain knowledge of God.
2:1 Hebrew My son.
1:29-33 As we see in this proverb, many people choose to live life as they please. They give in to their sinful
impulses without thinking about God’s will for them. It is foolish to allow ourselves to fall prey to temptations.
This will lead us away from God, the only one who can really satisfy our deepest needs. The path to secure
freedom and peace is narrow and requires listening to God’s wisdom and exercising self-control.
2:1-9 Wisdom is like a hidden treasure that is found only by those who search for it. God will grant us
wisdom and good sense. He will also protect us and instruct us on how to make good decisions. We may not
have made great decisions in the past, and now we may be suffering the consequences of those decisions.
But when we put our trust in God, he will show us the decisions we need to make in keeping with his will.
