Fear of the LORD is the foundation
of true knowledge,
but fools despise wisdom and
discipline.

Trust in the LORD with all your heart;
do not depend on your own
understanding.
Seek his will in all you do,
and he will show you which path
to take.
• 15:1
A gentle answer deflects anger,
but harsh words make tempers flare.
• 19:21
You can make many plans,
but the LORD’s purpose will prevail.
• 22:6
Direct your children onto the right path,
and when they are older, they will not
leave it.
• 27:17
As iron sharpens iron,
so a friend sharpens a friend.
THE MASCULINE PERSPECTIVE
• WISDOM. Proverbs is a handbook for
men and for training boys to be men.
It warns about sexual sin, drunkenness,
greed, and power-grabbing. It shows the
benefits of wisdom and points us to the
source of that wisdom—God.
