enough to get by. We miss much that God’s Word has to offer. Read the Bible daily so
you can thoroughly understand all God wants you to know and do.
Can I truly trust the Bible as God’s Word?
• 2 T I MOT H Y 3 :1 6 | All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true
and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives.
• 2 P E T E R 1 :2 0 -2 1 | No prophecy in Scripture ever came from the prophet’s own
understanding, or from human initiative. No, those prophets were moved by the Holy
Spirit, and they spoke from God.
• PSA L M 1 8 :3 0 | God’s way is perfect. All the Lord’s promises prove true. (See note on
page 488.)
The Bible has stood the test of time more than any other document in human history. It has
been faithfully preserved because it is God’s very words to us and he will not let them disappear from the face of the earth or let its truths be altered by human hands in any way.
How often should we read the Bible?
• DE U T E R O NO MY 6 :6 | “And you must commit yourselves wholeheartedly to these commands that I am giving you today.”

• DE U T E R O NO MY 1 7 :1 9 | “He must always keep that copy with him and read it daily as
long as he lives. That way he will learn to fear the Lord his God by obeying all the terms
of these instructions and decrees.”

• J O S H U A 1 :8 | “Study this Book of Instruction continually. Meditate on it day and night so
you will be sure to obey everything written in it. Only then will you prosper and succeed in
all you do.”
• PSA L M 1 1 9 :9 7 | Oh, how I love your instructions! I think about them all day long.
The Bible is for regular reading and meditation. God says to read it “continually.”
Continually doesn’t mean reading the Bible just when we get around to it. If possible,
we should read God’s Word every day because that is one of the primary ways he
communicates with us.
Why is it so important to read the Bible?
• J E R E MI A H 1 5 :1 6 | “When I discovered your words, I devoured them. They are my joy and
my heart’s delight.” (See note on page 681.)
Life itself is sustained by God’s Word.
• J O H N 8 :3 2 | “And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” (See note on
page 963.)
• J O H N 1 2 :5 0 | “And I know his commands lead to eternal life.” (See note on page 968.)
Reading the Bible tells us how to be set free from slavery to sin so we can enjoy eternal life.
• A C T S 1 7 :1 1 | And the people of Berea . . . listened eagerly to Paul’s message. They
searched the Scriptures day after day to see if Paul and Silas were teaching the truth.
Reading the Bible helps us recognize true and false teaching.
• DE U T E R O NO MY 1 7 :2 0 | “This regular reading will prevent him from becoming proud and
acting as if he is above his fellow citizens.”
Reading the Bible helps us keep a right attitude toward God and others.
• PSA L M 1 9 :1 1 | They are a warning to your servant, a great reward for those who obey them.
Reading the Bible warns us about things that will harm us.
• PSA L M 1 1 9 :9 | How can a young person stay pure? By obeying your word.
Reading the Bible can keep us pure.
• PSA L M 1 1 9 :1 0 5 | Your word is a lamp to guide my feet and a light for my path.
Reading the Bible guides us in daily living.
