• I SA I A H 2 6 :1 9 | But those who die in the Lord will live; their bodies will rise again! Those
who sleep in the earth will rise up and sing for joy!
Belonging to God is an eternal relationship, not merely for this world, but for the world to
come. This permits us to live again after we die. The grave is not the last chapter, merely
the transitional one.
• J O H N 1 5 :1 2 -1 5 | “This is my commandment: Love each other in the same way I have
loved you. There is no greater love than to lay down one’s life for one’s friends. . . . Now you
are my friends, since I have told you everything the Father told me.”
Those who belong to God know how to better love others because they have experienced
the perfect love of God.
What responsibilities come with God’s blessings?
• DE U T E R O NO MY 1 6 :1 7 | “All must give as they are able, according to the blessings given to
them by the Lord your God.” (See note on page 175.)
As God prospers us, we are to share that prosperity in our giving. Receiving and giving go
hand in hand.
PROMISES FROM GOD
• R E VE L AT I O N 2 1 :7 | “All who are victorious will inherit all these blessings, and I will be
their God, and they will be my children.”

In track and field, if runners step out of their lanes during a race, they are disqualified. In
soccer, if a player kicks the ball out of bounds, the other team gets the ball. In volleyball,
if a player hits a ball out of bounds the other team gets a point. When it comes to sports,
we know that boundaries are good and necessary in order to keep the game fair, orderly
and under control. They also keep people from getting hurt. And finally, they keep the
game moving forward toward a specific goal. With no boundaries, the game just doesn’t
make sense. This same principle is true in everyday life. God gives us boundaries so that
life makes sense. When we stay within those boundaries we have purpose and direction,
and we get hurt less. When we go out of bounds we are penalized, not because God
wants to punish us, but because those are the consequences for going out of bounds.
The world works by the rules God set in place at creation. We can’t change them, and
in fact if we could, life wouldn’t be as fulfilling—just like a good game. Instead of seeing
boundaries as negative limitations on our freedoms, try to see them as useful for keeping
life moving toward the ultimate victory God has promised all who play the game well and
live within his boundaries.
Why do I need boundaries?
• PSA L M 1 1 9 :3 5 | Make me walk along the path of your commands, for that is where my
happiness is found.
• PSA L M 1 1 9 :1 3 3 | Guide my steps by your word, so I will not be overcome by evil.
If you’ve ever walked on a path in the woods, you know how important it is for the
path to be clearly marked. If it’s not, you can stray off the path and become hopelessly
