minds of those who don’t believe. They are unable to see the glorious light of the Good
News. They don’t understand this message about the glory of Christ, who is the exact
likeness of God.
Confusion can be caused by evil. Satan tries to confuse God’s followers into thinking that
God cannot and will not help them.
• MA R K 5 :3 6 | But Jesus overheard them and said to Jairus, “Don’t be afraid. Just have
faith.”
Too often we make faith difficult, but that wasn’t what Jesus intended. Faith isn’t complicated. It simply means trusting Jesus to do what he has promised—and he promised to
give you life forever in heaven if you just believe he is who he said he is, the Son of God.
• L U K E 6 :1 3 | At daybreak he called together all of his disciples and chose twelve of them to
be apostles. (See note on page 925.)
Faith is simply a willingness to follow Jesus.
• PSA L M 1 3 1 :2 | Yes, like a weaned child is my soul within me.
• MAT T H E W 1 8 :2 -3 | Jesus called a little child to him. . . . Then he said, “I tell you the truth,
unless you turn from your sins and become like little children, you will never get into the
Kingdom of Heaven.” (See note on page 879.)
• MA R K 1 0 :1 4 | [Jesus] said to them, “Let the children come to me. Don’t stop them! For the
Kingdom of God belongs to those who are like these children.”

It is not hard for a little child to have faith. The child simply believes with calm assurance
that his parents will provide and protect. You can have this same uncomplicated trust
in God.

Why should I have faith in God?
• I SA I A H 2 5 :9 | “This is the Lord, in whom we trusted. Let us rejoice in the salvation he brings!”
• J O H N 5 :2 4 | “I tell you the truth, those who listen to my message and believe in God who
sent me have eternal life.”
• J O H N 1 4 :6 | Jesus told him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the
Father except through me.”
• G A L AT I A NS 3 :2 2 | But the Scriptures declare that we are all prisoners of sin, so we receive
God’s promise of freedom only by believing in Jesus Christ.
Faith is the only way to get to heaven. It is the only doorway to eternal life. If God created
eternity, then only through God can we get there.
• H E B R E W S 1 1 :1 | Faith shows the reality of what we hope for; it is the evidence of things
we cannot see. (See note on page 1117.)
Faith gives us hope because it is the most real thing in our lives.
How does faith in God affect my relationship with God? How does it change
the way I live?
• G E NE S I S 1 5 :6 | And Abram believed the Lord, and the Lord counted him as righteous
because of his faith. (See note on page 15.)
• R O MA NS 3 :2 4 -2 5 | Yet God, in his grace, freely makes us right in his sight. . . . People
are made right with God when they believe that Jesus sacrificed his life, shedding his
blood.
Sin breaks our relationship with God because it is rebellion against God. A holy God cannot live with unholy people. But when we accept Jesus as Savior and ask him to forgive
our sins, this simple act of faith makes us righteous in God’s sight and puts us into right
relationship with him again.
• I SA I A H 2 6 :3 | You will keep in perfect peace all who trust in you.
Faith in God brings peace of mind and heart because we know that we belong to him, and
we know that one day all pain and suffering will end.
