Giving continued
• R O MA NS 1 2 :1 | And so, dear brothers and sisters, I plead with you to give your bodies to
God because of all he has done for you. Let them be a living and holy sacrifice—the kind he
will find acceptable. This is truly the way to worship him.
• 1 C O R I NT H I A NS 6 :1 9 -2 0 | Don’t you realize that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit,
who lives in you and was given to you by God? You do not belong to yourself, for God
bought you with a high price. So you must honor God with your body.
You can give your body to God. In other words, you dedicate it to be used for good and
not evil. You commit yourself to take good care of your body, which is the home of God’s
Holy Spirit, just as you take care of God’s church. You do not allow impure and harmful
things into your body because of the damage they can do. When you give your body to
God, you receive the wonderful blessing of his Spirit working unhindered through you.
What are some gifts I can give to others?
• 1 C O R I NT H I A NS 1 3 :4 -7 | Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous or boastful or
proud or rude. It does not demand its own way. It is not irritable, and it keeps no record
of being wronged. It does not rejoice about injustice but rejoices whenever the truth wins
out. Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every
circumstance.
You can give others the gift of love.

• MAT T H E W 6 :1 4 | “If you forgive those who sin against you, your heavenly Father will
forgive you.”
You can give others the gift of forgiveness.

• 1 P E T E R 3 :7 | In the same way, you husbands must give honor to your wives. Treat your
wife with understanding as you live together. She may be weaker than you are, but she is
your equal partner in God’s gift of new life. Treat her as you should so your prayers will
not be hindered.
• PR O V E R B S 3 1 :2 8 -2 9 | Her children stand and bless her. Her husband praises her: “There
are many virtuous and capable women in the world, but you surpass them all!”
You can give others honor and respect.
• 3 J O H N 1 :5 -6 | Dear friend, you are being faithful to God when you care for the traveling
teachers who pass through, even though they are strangers to you. They have told the
church here of your loving friendship. Please continue providing for such teachers in a
manner that pleases God.
You can give others friendship and show them hospitality.
• 2 C O R I NT H I A NS 9 :9 | “They share freely and give generously to the poor. Their good deeds
will be remembered forever.”
• MA R K 6 :3 8 , 4 2 -4 4 | “How much bread do you have?” he asked. “Go and find out.” They
came back and reported, “We have five loaves of bread and two fish.” . . . They all ate as
much as they wanted, and afterward, the disciples picked up twelve baskets of leftover
bread and fish. A total of 5,000 men and their families were fed.
• 2 C O R I NT H I A NS 8 :1 2 -1 4 | Whatever you give is acceptable if you give it eagerly. And give
according to what you have, not what you don’t have. Of course, I don’t mean your giving
should make life easy for others and hard for yourselves. I only mean that there should
be some equality. Right now you have plenty and can help those who are in need. Later,
they will have plenty and can share with you when you need it. In this way, things will be
equal.
You can give your money, service, and other resources to meet others’ needs.
• R O MA NS 1 :1 1 | For I long to visit you so I can bring you some spiritual gift that will help
you grow strong in the Lord.
You can give others a spiritual blessing by encouraging them to grow stronger in
the Lord.
