Healing continued
What is a positive way I can respond in times of personal sickness?
• PSA L M 1 0 3 :2 | Let all that I am praise the Lord; may I never forget the good things he
does for me.
Praise the Lord for his ability to forgive your sins and heal your diseases. Even if he
chooses not to heal you physically, he has already healed you spiritually if you have
put your faith in Jesus. Praise the Lord when he uses your sickness to move you
closer to him.
• 2 C O R I NT H I A NS 1 2 :8 -1 0 | Three different times I begged the Lord to take it away. Each
time he said, “My grace is all you need. My power works best in weakness.” So now I am
glad to boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ can work through me.
That’s why I take pleasure in my weaknesses, and in the insults, hardships, persecutions,
and troubles that I suffer for Christ. For when I am weak, then I am strong.
• PR O V E R B S 1 7 :2 2 | A cheerful heart is good medicine, but a broken spirit saps a person’s
strength.
Pray for healing and be content with God’s decision. If he chooses not to heal you then
look for ways you can minister to others through your sickness. You might wind up having
a greater impact on them than if you were healthy.
• PSA L M 7 3 :2 6 | My health may fail, and my spirit may grow weak, but God remains the
strength of my heart; he is mine forever.

• 1 C O R I NT H I A NS 1 5 :4 3 | Our bodies are buried in brokenness, but they will be raised in
glory. They are buried in weakness, but they will be raised in strength.

Regardless of the condition of your health, whether you are well or sick, you can rejoice
that God faithfully remains your strength. Your frail earthly body will one day be gloriously
transformed for eternity.
What is my responsibility toward those who are sick?
• G A L AT I A NS 4 :1 4 | Even though my condition tempted you to reject me, you did not despise
me or turn me away.
Sickness in a friend or loved one may be unpleasant, but that is no reason to reject anyone. It is easy to stay away from older family members when their health fails. We should
treat others, even when they are sick, as though they were angels from God.
How can I minister to the sick?
• J A ME S 5 :1 4 -1 5 | Are any of you sick? You should call for the elders of the church to come
and pray over you, anointing you with oil in the name of the Lord. Such a prayer offered
in faith will heal the sick, and the Lord will make you well. And if you have committed any
sins, you will be forgiven.
You can pray for those who are sick. Some will be healed and some will be strengthened
spiritually even though they are not healed.
• MA R K 2 :3 -5 | Four men arrived carrying a paralyzed man on a mat. They couldn’t bring
him to Jesus because of the crowd, so they dug a hole through the roof above his head.
Then they lowered the man on his mat, right down in front of Jesus. Seeing their faith, Jesus
said to the paralyzed man, “My child, your sins are forgiven.”
• J O H N 5 :7 | “I can’t, sir,” the sick man said, “for I have no one to put me into the pool when
the water bubbles up. Someone else always gets there ahead of me.”
Often, there are practical ways to help those who are sick get the help and healing they need.
• G A L AT I A NS 4 :1 3 -1 4 | Surely you remember that I was sick when I first brought you the
Good News. But even though my condition tempted you to reject me, you did not despise
me or turn me away. No, you took me in and cared for me as though I were an angel from
God or even Christ Jesus himself.
• L U K E 1 0 :3 3 -3 4 , 3 6 -3 7 | Then a despised Samaritan came along, and when he saw the
man, he felt compassion for him. Going over to him, the Samaritan soothed his wounds
