with olive oil and wine and bandaged them. Then he put the man on his own donkey and
took him to an inn, where he took care of him. . . . “Now which of these three would you
say was a neighbor to the man who was attacked by bandits?” Jesus asked. The man
replied, “The one who showed him mercy.” Then Jesus said, “Yes, now go and do the
same.”

me. I was in prison, and you visited me.’
You can meet the physical, emotional, social, and spiritual needs of the sick.
What is the greatest danger to my health?
• R O MA NS 6 :1 6 | Don’t you realize that you become the slave of whatever you choose to
obey? You can be a slave to sin, which leads to death, or you can choose to obey God,
which leads to righteous living.
• J E R E MI A H 3 0 :1 2 -1 3 , 1 7 | “No medicine can heal you. . . . I will give you back your health
and heal your wounds.”

Christ Jesus our Lord.

When we are weak, God’s power and strength can be more easily seen in us. When we
think we are self-sufficient, God will not exercise his greatest strength in us.
How do I keep my soul in good health?
• 1 T I MOT H Y 4 :8 | “Physical training is good, but training for godliness is much better,
promising benefits in this life and in the life to come.” (See note on page 1093.).
As your body needs exercise to keep physically fit, so your soul needs exercise to keep
fit spiritually.
How can my attitude affect my health?
• PR O VE R B S 1 7 :2 2 | A cheerful heart is good medicine, but a broken spirit saps a person’s
strength.
It’s both a Bible truth and a fact of life—a positive, cheerful disposition has a positive
impact on our health.
From what do I need to be healed?
• L U K E 8 :4 2 | His only daughter, who was about twelve years old, was dying.
• MA R K 1 :4 0 | A man with leprosy came and knelt in front of Jesus, begging to be healed.
We long to be healed from sickness and disease.

Our broken hearts need healing and restoration.

We need healing from sorrow.

How can God use my sickness in a positive way?

Sin is a terminal disease, leading not merely to physical death, but eternal death. But God
is the Great Physician. He can heal and restore spiritual health through his gift of salvation,
leading to eternal physical health in heaven.
