Heaven/Eternal Life continued
Who will get into heaven?
• MAT T H E W 5 :3 | “God blesses those who . . . realize their need for him, for the Kingdom of
Heaven is theirs.”
• MAT T H E W 1 9 :1 4 | But Jesus said, “Let the children come to me. Don’t stop them! For the
Kingdom of Heaven belongs to those who are like these children.”
• J O H N 3 :1 6 | “For this is how God loved the world: He gave his one and only Son, so that
everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life.”
Those who have a relationship with Jesus Christ and believe that he alone is God are
promised eternal life with him. When you know Jesus and sincerely accept that only he
can forgive sin (the one thing that separates you from God), you are guaranteed entrance
into heaven.
How can I be sure I will go to heaven?
• A C T S 1 6 :3 1 | “Believe in the Lord Jesus and you will be saved.”
• R O MA NS 5 :8 -9 | But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while
we were still sinners. And since we have been made right in God’s sight by the blood of
Christ, he will certainly save us from God’s condemnation.
H
• R O MA NS 1 0 :9 -1 0 | If you openly declare that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart
that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is by believing in your heart
that you are made right with God, and it is by openly declaring your faith that you are
saved.

If you believe Jesus died to take the punishment for your sins and recognize that only he
can forgive you, the Bible promises you will go to heaven. You cannot earn your way to
heaven; it is God’s gift to those who give their allegiance to Jesus.
• H E B R E W S 2 :1 4 -1 5 | Because God’s children are human beings—made of flesh and
blood—the Son also became flesh and blood. For only as a human being could he die,
and only by dying could he break the power of the devil, who had the power of death.
Only in this way could he set free all who have lived their lives as slaves to the fear of
dying.
• R O MA NS 8 :3 4 | Who then will condemn us? No one—for Christ Jesus died for us and was
raised to life for us, and he is sitting in the place of honor at God’s right hand, pleading
for us.
The default destination for everyone who dies is hell. The Bible is clear that sin deserves
eternal judgment. It is also clear that everyone has sinned (Romans 3:23). But God offers
hope to everyone. God sent his Son Jesus to die—to take the punishment for sin that we
deserve. If he had only died that wouldn’t be enough. But he rose from the dead, proving
that he alone has power over death. The only one who has ever defied death promises this
same kind of forever life to all who follow him.
• 1 C O R I NT H I A NS 1 5 :4 2 | It is the same way with the resurrection of the dead. Our earthly
bodies are planted in the ground when we die, but they will be raised to live forever.
Faith in Jesus would be meaningless if he hadn’t risen from the dead. Jesus’ resurrection
was the essential aspect of God’s plan to allow you to spend eternity with him. Because
Jesus was raised from the dead with a new body, you can be assured that he has the
power over death and that you, too, will be resurrected one day with a new body and live
forever with him in heaven.
• R O MA NS 8 :3 8 -3 9 | And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s
love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our
worries about tomorrow—not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love. No
power in the sky above or in the earth below—indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be
able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord.
God’s love is stronger than any person, supernatural foe, or circumstance that may threaten
you. No matter what comes your way, nothing can separate you from God’s love when you
trust in Jesus Christ.
