• R E VE L AT I O N 6 :1 0 | They shouted to the Lord and said, “O Sovereign Lord, holy and true,
how long before you judge the people who belong to this world and avenge our blood for
what they have done to us?” (See note on page 1156.)
Injustice happens because God created human beings with free will—we have the freedom
to choose good or evil, right or wrong. If God hadn’t done it that way, we would only be
puppets of a divine dictator, not people who love him. God knew that people needed the
freedom to choose, but that also means that many will choose wrongly, causing injustice
to the innocent. But to think that God condones injustice simply because it happens is
contrary to his righteous nature and opposed to what the Bible teaches about all sin. God
sees every injustice and judges it to be sin. And one day, in his perfect timing, he will end
all injustice forever.
What should I do about injustice in my community and in the world?
• H E B R E W S 1 3 :3 | Remember those in prison, as if you were there yourself. Remember also
those being mistreated, as if you felt their pain in your own bodies.
Step up to the plate—don’t ignore those being treated unjustly. Be an advocate for the
unjust, and your heart will turn toward helping them more and more.
• PR O VE R B S 3 1 :8 -9 | Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves; ensure justice for
those being crushed. Yes, speak up for the poor and helpless, and see that they get justice.
• J O B 2 9 :1 6 | I was a father to the poor and assisted strangers who needed help.
• PR O VE R B S 2 4 :1 1 -1 2 | Rescue those who are unjustly sentenced to die; save them as they
stagger to their death. Don’t excuse yourself by saying, “Look, we didn’t know.” For God
understands all hearts, and he sees you. He who guards your soul knows you knew. He will
repay all people as their actions deserve.
• MAT T H E W 2 5 :4 5 | “And he will answer, ‘I tell you the truth, when you refused to help the
least of these my brothers and sisters, you were refusing to help me.’ ”
Act on your convictions and do something, anything, to help those in need.
• PSA L M 5 8 :1 0 | The godly will rejoice when they see injustice avenged.
• 1 C O R I NT H I A NS 1 3 :6 | [Love] does not rejoice about injustice but rejoices whenever the
truth wins out.
Shout out in rejoicing when justice prevails. Injustice requires mourning. Justice requires
celebration.
• PSA L M 5 8 :6 | Break off their fangs, O God!
Pray that God would intervene.
• I SA I A H 5 6 :1 | This is what the Lord says: “Be just and fair to all. Do what is right and good.”
• R O MA NS 1 3 :7 | Give to everyone what you owe them.
Continue to do what is right. Don’t become unjust yourself.
• PR O VE R B S 2 0 :2 2 | Don’t say, “I will get even for this wrong.” Wait for the Lord to handle
the matter.
Don’t repay evil with evil. Don’t seek revenge.
How do God’s justice and mercy relate?
• NU MB E R S 3 5 :9 -2 5 | The Lord said to Moses, “. . . Designate cities of refuge to which
people can flee.” (See note on page 156.)
• 2 SA MU E L 2 4 :1 4 | “But let us fall into the hands of the Lord, for his mercy is great.” (See
note on page 296.)
• R O MA NS 6 :2 3 | For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life through
Christ Jesus our Lord.

orphans. Fight for the rights of widows.
J
Speak out on behalf of those being treated unjustly. Silence toward injustice is unjust. And
it is amazing how speaking up—in love—often makes a difference.
