Why would God want to adopt me?
• 1 J O H N 3 :1 | See how very much our Father loves us, for he calls us his children, and that
is what we are!
• 1 T H E S S A L O NI A NS 1 :4 | We know, dear brothers and sisters, that God loves you and has
chosen you to be his own people.
God chose you to be his adopted child because he loves you.
• E PH E SI A NS 1 :5 | God decided in advance to adopt us into his own family by bringing
us to himself through Jesus Christ. This is what he wanted to do, and it gave him great
pleasure.
Adopting you as his child has always been part of God’s plan since the beginning of
time.
• 1 PE T E R 2 :9 | But you are not like that, for you are a chosen people. You are royal priests,
a holy nation, God’s very own possession. As a result, you can show others the goodness of
God, for he called you out of the darkness into his wonderful light.
God has adopted you to radiate his goodness to others.
What are some of my privileges as God’s adopted child?
• E PH E SI A NS 2 :1 8 | Now all of us can come to the Father through the same Holy Spirit
because of what Christ has done for us.

• 2 C O R I NT H I A NS 6 :1 8 | “And I will be your Father, and you will be my sons and daughters,
says the Lord Almighty.”
• E PH E SI A NS 2 :1 9 | So now you Gentiles are no longer strangers and foreigners. You are
citizens along with all of God’s holy people. You are members of God’s family.
• H E B R E W S 2 :1 1 | So now Jesus and the ones he makes holy have the same Father. That is
why Jesus is not ashamed to call them his brothers and sisters.
You belong to God’s family.
• E PH E SI A NS 1 :6 -8 | So we praise God for the glorious grace he has poured out on us who
belong to his dear Son. . . . He has showered his kindness on us, along with all wisdom and
understanding.
You are a beneficiary of God’s kindness.
• E PH E SI A NS 3 :6 | And this is God’s plan: Both Gentiles and Jews who believe the Good News
share equally in the riches inherited by God’s children.
• MAT T H E W 7 :1 1 | “If you sinful people know how to give good gifts to your children, how
much more will your heavenly Father give good gifts to those who ask him.”
You are a recipient of God’s blessings and good gifts.
• 1 T H E S S A L O NI A NS 2 :1 2 | We pleaded with you, encouraged you, and urged you to live
your lives in a way that God would consider worthy. For he called you to share in his
Kingdom and glory.
• R O MA NS 8 :1 7 | And since we are his children, we are his heirs. In fact, together with Christ
we are heirs of God’s glory. But if we are to share his glory, we must also share his suffering.
You have the privilege to share in Christ’s glory and suffering.
• J O H N 1 4 :2 -3 | “There is more than enough room in my Father’s home. If this were not so,
would I have told you that I am going to prepare a place for you? When everything is ready,
I will come and get you, so that you will always be with me where I am.”
• 1 PE T E R 1 :4 | And we have a priceless inheritance—an inheritance that is kept in heaven
for you, pure and undefiled, beyond the reach of change and decay.
The privilege of being a child of God does not stop on earth but continues through eternity.
You will always have a relationship with God. Even your inheritance is eternal, for you will
live in his heavenly home with him forever!
