If we break a commitment we have made to another, we have broken a trust. The only
thing to do is to admit the wrong, and ask the other person—and God—to forgive us.
How strong is God’s commitment to me?
• I SA I A H 4 6 :4 | “I will be your God throughout your lifetime—until your hair is white with age.
I made you, and I will care for you. I will carry you along and save you.”
If you have put your trust in God, he has promised his total commitment to lead you and
guide you for your lifetime.
• T I T U S 2 :1 4 | He gave his life to free us from every kind of sin, to cleanse us, and to make
us his very own people, totally committed to doing good deeds.
God’s commitment to a relationship with you is so strong that he allowed his only Son to
die for your sins so that you wouldn’t have to experience the ultimate punishment for sin
and so that you would be able to spend eternity with him.
What is involved in being committed to God?
• E X O DU S 2 4 :3 | All the people answered with one voice, “We will do everything the Lord
has commanded.”
• MAT T H E W 6 :2 4 | “No one can serve two masters. For you will hate one and love the other;
you will be devoted to one and despise the other.”
A decision to make God first in your life.
• 1 C H R O NI C L E S 2 9 :5 | “Now then, who will follow my example and give offerings to the
Lord today?”
• PR O VE R B S 3 :9 | Honor the Lord with your wealth and with the best part of everything
you produce.
A practice of giving financially to help support God’s work.
• A MO S 5 :2 4 | “I want to see a mighty flood of justice, an endless river of righteous living.”
A lifestyle of doing good, not harm, to others and seeking justice for the oppressed.
• R O MA NS 6 :1 3 | Give yourselves completely to God, for you were dead, but now you have
new life. So use your whole body as an instrument to do what is right for the glory of God.
A surrender of everything you are and have to him and his service.
PROMISES FROM GOD
• I SA I A H 4 0 :3 1 | Those who trust in the Lord will find new strength.
• H E B R E W S 3 :1 4 | If we are faithful to the end, trusting God just as firmly as when we first
believed, we will share in all that belongs to Christ.
Communication See also Conflict; Friendship
The opportunity to communicate with one another has never been easier—from smartphones to the Internet, from e-mail to video conferencing, we are always working to
improve our ability to communicate. Why? Because communication is not just important,
but essential. We like to keep in touch because it is vital to the quality and success of any
relationship, whether it is marriage, friendship, family, or business. The same principle
applies to our relationship with God. To know him we must communicate with him, and
we must learn to listen as he communicates with us. Only then will we experience a breakthrough in our spiritual lives. The more time we spend communicating with him, the closer
and more successful our relationship with him will be. When was the last time you felt in
touch with God? How much time do you spend communicating with him?

Being committed to God means a resolve to try your best to obey all of God’s Word in all
areas of your life. As a human being with a sinful nature, you will never be able to achieve
this goal in this life (then you’d be perfect), but that should not stop you from trying.
